Connecting through Research Partnerships (Connect) Program Awards for FY2015

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce the grant award winners of the Connecting through Research Partnerships (Connect) Program sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI).  This grant opportunity exists to enhance greater scientific collaboration between the two institutions and to increase both UTSA’s and SwRI’s research-funding base with cross-campus collaborative programs.  The program encourages interaction between investigators in support of the acquisitions of established extramural, peer-reviewed research funding.  This agreement provides unprecedented opportunities for researchers to work together in addressing issues of mutual interest and need.  The below awardees will receive joint funding totaling $125,000 to conduct their respective research over a 12 month period starting on September 1, 2014.

“Development of New Ruthenium Catalysts for the Low-Temperature Reduction of NOx Emissions from Vehicle Exhaust”
Zachary J. Tonzetich, Ph. D – UTSA College of Sciences, Department of Chemistry
Gordon J. J. Bartley – SwRI Department of Engine and Vehicle Research Development

“Evaluation of anti-bacterial effects of novel formulations that target an essential metabolic pathway of the agent of Lyme disease”
