DESCRIPTION:In a rapidly changing world filled with distractions\, how do we engage our students in the classroom and beyond? We invite you to join us for a two day symposium featuring national experts and UTSA innovators.  Come learn more about how impactful strategies including metacognition\, growth mindset\, transparency\, and inclusiveness can improve student learning.  Speakers  will be announced throughout the spring. \nJoin us on Monday\, May\, 15th from 8:30 to 3:30 and Tuesday May 16th from 8:30 to 3:30 for this engaging and interactive experience.  Breakfast and lunch will be served.  Space is limited\, so please sign up below. \nRegister for this eventPresented By: UTSA Teaching and Learning Services \n  Michael Wesch\, PhDAssociate professor of cultural anthropology & Coordinator for the Peer Review of Teaching Project\nMichael Wesch is an award-winning teacher active in the development of innovative teaching techniques. Most notably\, Wesch has developed a highly-acclaimed “World Simulation” for large introductory classes in cultural anthropology. Currently he is the coordinator for the Peer Review of Teaching Project at Kansas State University.Peter Arthur\, PhDDirector\, Centre for Teaching and Learning\, University of British Columbia\, Okanagan Improving Student Learning with Metacognition\, Growth Mindset and Grit\nPeter Arthur leads a team dedicated to supporting teaching and learning excellence. His current research focuses on new advanced learning models including students’ ability to create personal learning networks\, open learning resources\, and learning environments. Patricia Sanchez\, PhDAssociate Professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies Patricia Sánchez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She currently serves as the Lead Editor of the Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE) Journal. She is a nominee for the Regents Outstanding Teaching Award. For over two decades she has worked with non-profits\, schools\, and research organizations\, both in Texas and California\, to improve the educational and economic success of Latina/o immigrants in the US.Julie SchellDirector of OnRamps and Strategic Initiatives\, University of Texas at AustinJulie Schell is Director of OnRamps and Strategic Initiatives and a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin. She teaches two graduate courses: Technology and Innovation in Higher Education and Problems of College Teaching and Learning. Julie has a doctorate in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College\, Columbia University and an M.S. in Counseling and Educational Psychology. She also completed a four year postdoctoral fellowship in pedagogical innovation at Harvard University in 2013.
