SUMMARY:Provost Academy for Teaching Excellence 2018 (May 14 & 15)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 2018 Provost Academy for Teaching Excellence on May 14 & 15. This annual two-day teaching event explores innovations and issues around teaching and learning on college campuses. Each year\, our speaker line-up includes a combination of national and local experts on a diverse range of topics. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. \n  \nGrowth Mindset \nDavid Yeagar\,  Associate Professor of Psychology and Faculty Research Associate at the University of Texas at Austin\nIn his academic research\, he examines the causes of and solutions to adolescent health problems\, such as bullying\, depression\, academic achievement\, cheating\, and trust. He has co-authored work on grit and grit-testing with Angela Duckworth and on growth mindset with Carol Dweck. \n  \nGamification \nJulie Schell\, Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Design and Creative Technologies at the University of Texas at Austin\nDr. Schell specializes in the teaching and learning of Design Thinking across organizational contexts. Julie also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UT-Austin’s new School of Design and Creative Technologies top-ranked College of Education\, where she teaches two graduate courses: Problems of College Teaching and Learning and Technology and Innovation in Higher Education. \n  \nThe Funny Thing About Stress \nMotivational Humorist\, Kay Frances\, has shared her message to “lighten up\, stress less and take care of ourselves” in 40 states and Canada for over 30 years. She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration\, a degree in Health and Physical Education and a 4th degree black belt in karate. She was also a family caregiver for 7 years. When it comes to humor\, Kay is the “real deal” having performed as a professional standup comedian for many years and appearing on a number of national television and radio programs. Additionally\, Kay is the author of “The Funny Thing about Stress; A Seriously Humorous Guide to a Happier Life.” \n  \nKEYNOTE PRESENTATION: Every Semester Needs a Plan \nDo you start with high hopes for your writing projects\, but end disappointed by your actual productivity? Do you want to figure out how to be more productive AND enjoy your life this semester? Facilitators from the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity are ready to help in this Keynote presentation.
