SUMMARY:The Lecture is Dead! Long Live the Lecture! (Main Campus)
DESCRIPTION:Research shows that 50 percent of faculty still use lecture as a primary means of instruction\, particularly in large classes. Effective lecturing can make classes interesting\, engaging\, and active. This workshop presents techniques for gaining and keeping interest\, organizing information for learning\, and actively engaging students with the material. Dixson earned a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas\, Austin. She has been leading faculty development initiatives for 8 years and has 20 years of experience teaching practical skills and theory in communication and public speaking.
