SUMMARY:Promoting Higher Order Thinking
DESCRIPTION:Critical thinking and problem solving are skills that all students need to be effective learners. In this workshop\, participants will learn basic teaching strategies that help guide students toward a deeper knowledge of course content and an understanding of how their learning fits into the overall fabric of academia\, work and society. \nBy attending this course participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the concepts of deeper learning and critical thinking.\nExplore best practices that lead to deeper learning and critical thinking.\nImplement strategies that lead to deeper learning and critical thinking in the classroom.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOffered February 20\, 2020\, DEx Lab (AET 0.202)\, 2 pm- 3 pm. She has more than 25 years of experience working with faculty from a variety of academic disciplines and settings. Her experience includes developing faculty orientation\, redesigning courses\, exploring diversity and inclusion\, creating engaging classrooms\, and implementing academic policy. Her teaching experience includes everything from welcoming traditional freshman in college success courses to mentoring doctoral students through the dissertation process. Shelley has firsthand experience juggling the challenges of school and family life and learning the ropes as a transfer student. She is also proud to be First Gen! Shelley has an Associate of Arts from State Fair Community College in Missouri\, a BS degree from Southern Illinois University\, a Master of Education in adult education from University of Oklahoma\, and a doctorate in higher education administration from Oklahoma State University.
