SUMMARY:Integrating Generative AI into Engineering Education: Design and Deployment of an AI Studio for MEP Class | Generative AI Peer Learning Network
DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about how generative AI is transforming higher education? Do you want to be at the forefront of these changes at UT San Antonio? \nJoin us for this month’s Generative AI Peer Learning Network featuring Tianzhi He\, as we connect with a supportive community dedicated to exploring how AI tools can transform teaching and learning. \nTianzhi He\, Assistant Professor in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Construction Management (CECM) at The University of Texas at San Antonio\, will present the development and classroom deployment of the MEP AI Studio\, a multi-agent generative AI system designed to support teaching and learning in CSM 4643 (Mechanical\, Electrical\, and Plumbing Systems). The MEP AI Studio leverages a set of specialized AI agents tailored to different instructional use cases\, including a Q&A Tutor for textbook-based concept clarification\, a Case Discussion agent for peer-style critical thinking\, a Revit Modeling assistant for workflow guidance\, and a Scenario Role-Play agent for experiential learning. The system is built on the Botpress platform and is seamlessly integrated into Canvas\, enabling students to interact with AI directly within their course environment without needing to navigate to external tools or platforms. This integration lowers barriers to adoption and supports continuous\, in-context learning. In this session\, He will share the system design\, including the multi-agent pipeline\, prompt engineering strategies\, and interaction flow that guide students across different learning modes. The presentation will also highlight example classroom use cases demonstrating how students engage with the system for both conceptual understanding and practical skill development. Finally\, He will discuss initial student feedback and reflect on the opportunities\, challenges\, and lessons learned from integrating generative AI into a senior-level engineering course. \nSince its launch in January 2023\, the network has become a central hub for faculty and staff from across campus to explore\, experiment\, and collaborate. \nAs a member\, you’ll have the opportunity to: \n\nDiscover new teaching strategies that responsibly and effectively integrate AI.\nStay ahead of the curve on the latest trends and applications.\nContribute to a growing ecosystem that is shaping the future of learning at our university.\n\nThis is more than just a network\, it’s a space for you to amplify your voice and help guide UT San Antonio’s thoughtful and innovative approach to generative AI. We invite you to join us every last Tuesday of the month and help shape the future. \nLearn more about the Generative AI Peer Learning Network. \nCreating an effective learning environment for all is important to us. SUMMARY:AI-Enhanced Education – Empowering Faculty to Foster Student Agency | UT System Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this month’s Educating for Impact: Building World-Ready Students | UT System Webinar Series featuring our own David Han. \nAs AI transitions from passive tools to agentic systems capable of independent reasoning and action\, higher education faces a pivotal design prompt: will this technology make our students more dependent or more decisive? This session examines the transformative shift from viewing AI as a disruptive tool for replacing human intelligence to embracing it as a catalyst for fostering deeper human agency. By exploring the concept of agentic AI in education\, we will illustrate how faculty can move beyond content delivery to become curiosity coaches and sense-makers who guide students in navigating an AI-enhanced world. The session will provide some practical strategies for redesigning learning experiences that prioritize critical thinking\, digital citizenship\, and the productive friction necessary for genuine student ownership and growth. Ultimately\, we will reflect on the educator’s role as an architect of meaning and empathy\, arguing that treating this technological moment as an invitation to redesign learning with heart can future-proof our students while making education more durable\, universal\, and profoundly human. \nLearn more about this series: Educating for Impact: Preparing World-Ready Students \nCreating an effective learning environment for all is important to us.
