SUMMARY:UT System Summer Lunch & Learn Series on Teaching & Learning
DESCRIPTION:Join us this summer as we showcase innovative and interesting topics from each institution of the UT System. \nFirst up is UTSA’s own Jodi Peterson\, Claudia Arcolin\, and Emily Johnson on the Interdisciplinary Project: \nThe year 2020 was monumental and will have immense historical significance. It seems possible\, that we are entering into an entirely new historical epoch that will present challenges as well as opportunities. How are students facing this defining moment in their lives? Working as a collaborative team\, an interdisciplinary project was designed to encourage students from six disciplines to gain insight into the experiences of others\, reflect on their own experiences\, and create artistic responses. \nWith the desire to give students a community in which to document this defining moment in their lives\, a group of faculty\, designers\, videographers and librarians at The University of Texas at San Antonio created a collaborative interdisciplinary project. This project reached students from multiple disciplines within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and the College of Architecture\, Construction and Planning\, allowing students to express their defining moment through written\, artistic\, musical and architectural modalities. \nThe project involved more than 500 students from six disciplines and was led by a group of nine instructors. Dedicated professionals from the Academic Innovation and Library teams designed the learning experience and identified best practices considering Universal Design for Learning\, digital fluency\, FERPA and copyright. Students’ artifacts have been posted in the university Research Press Archive and will be transformed into Open Educational Resources accessible to the entire community. \nDiscover how to design an interdisciplinary project for a large number of students\, coordinate instructors from multiple disciplines\, create the virtual learning environment and engage students in a unique learning experience. \nParticipants will engage in an interactive presentation and will experience the virtual learning environment for the interdisciplinary project with access to Padlet for a dialogue. Through breakout sessions/groups\, participants will have the opportunity to explore in detail how to implement a similar project in their institution. \nAnticipated Participant Learning Outcomes\nParticipants to the session will learn how to: \n\nDesign a virtual learning activity for an interdisciplinary project.\nCreate a collaborative team to implement a project that involves several disciplines.\nExplore best practices and rules for interdisciplinary projects in terms of FERPA and copyright.\nPreserve student artifacts into Online Archive.\n\nClick to view the recording \nRegister and Join

SUMMARY:UT System Summer Lunch & Learn Series on Teaching & Learning
DESCRIPTION:Join us this summer as we showcase innovative and interesting topics from each institution of the UT System. \nThis week\, UT-El Paso will present: \nFormative Feedback: Improve Your Course in Progress\, Empower Your Students \nStudent feedback helps faculty improve their courses and instructional strategies while empowering their students. Unlike end-of-semester summative evaluations that are used to improve future iterations of a course\, formative assessments (such as midsemester evaluations) enable current students to also benefit from positive adjustments. This workshop offers best practices and tips to effectively adopt formative feedback. \nPresenters: \nAdeeba Raheem\, A.M.ASCE\, ENV SP\, Assoc. SUMMARY:UT System Summer Lunch & Learn Series on Teaching & Learning
DESCRIPTION:Students as Learners and Teachers at an HSI: Analyzing and Revising Course Syllabi through an Equity Conscious and Student-Centered Approach\n\nIn this teaching conversation\, we will share our new initiative\, Students as Learners and Teachers initiative\, which aims to design teaching and learning spaces in direct response to the experiences\, knowledge\, and insights from our students. By collaborating with our students\, the initiative aims to foster student agency of their learning\, integrate inclusive and equitable teaching approaches\, and build a culture of openness to student feedback\, reflection\, and revision on teaching across the university. Specifically\, we will share an equity-minded and inclusive framework our student partners use to provide feedback to instructors on language choices in course syllabi that highlight inclusivity and accessibility\, engagement\, feedback and assessment\, representation\, and implicit bias. Drawing on student partners’ insights\, faculty participants will have the opportunity to analyze and revise their own course syllabi informed by the framework and guided questions. By reflecting on our language choices in course syllabi and committing to revisions\, we can create educational spaces that empower our students’ learning and growth in our courses and beyond. \n\nRegister and Join

SUMMARY:UT System Summer Lunch & Learn Series on Teaching & Learning
DESCRIPTION:Online Teaching Days: Peer Observation as Professional Growth for Observers \nUT Austin- Anne Braseby\, Kate Holloway\, and Sarah Schoonhoven \nOnline Teaching Days are an opportunity for instructors to watch their colleagues teach\, and to talk with each other about their teaching successes and struggles. As a non-evaluative peer observation practice\, Online Teaching Days instead focus on reflection and sharing of new ideas and methodologies. Instructors have the opportunity to observe both synchronous and asynchronous undergraduate courses across many disciplines\, and have opportunities to reflect on the intersections between the course observed and their own courses. \nIn this session\, we will share the impacts of this event on instructors\, from sharing new pedagogical practices\, to holding space for reflective conversations\, to building community around teaching and learning. \nWe will also discuss the transition of the in-person “Eyes on Teaching” into “Online Teaching Days” to support instructors’ transition into remote teaching. Finally\, we will brainstorm via small-group conversations to consider the future possibilities for a hybrid form of this event \nRegister and Join
