SUMMARY:ORCID for UTSA Researchers
DESCRIPTION:How can you ensure that your scholarly works online are correctly attributed to you and not to another researcher with a similar name? ORCID can help. It is a free\, unique\, persistent identifier (PID) for individuals to use as they engage in research\, scholarly\, and innovation activities across the globe. UTSA researchers are now required to have an ORCID iD to meet funders’ mandates for federally funded research. Whether your field is in sciences or humanities\, take advantage of ORCID to tell a story of your research impact. Learn how to maximize the benefits of ORCID\, how it can help you save time\, and how to set up automatic updates to keep your ORCID record current. \nRegister for this eventPresented by: Natasha Arguello\, Emily Johnson\, and Rachel Davis of UTSA Libraries

SUMMARY:Celebrate Teaching Week: Conversation & Connection in a Divided Country - How to Foster Respectful Discourse in the Classroom
DESCRIPTION:February 19-23\, 2024 is UTSA’s 2nd annual Celebrate Teaching Week! Hosted by the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars\, celebrate the exceptional teachers that make our top tier university a place where students thrive. \n\nUniversities are essential spaces for debate\, discussion and action by students and scholars address pressing global and humanitarian concerns. UTSA brings together diverse groups of students with a range of life experiences\, identities\, and viewpoints. \nYet\, our deeply polarized political climate can make it challenging for faculty to foster constructive conversations on current events and divisive topics. \nDr. Sara DeTurk and Professor Gina Amatangelo will lead this interactive workshop on the use of “structured dialogue” in the classroom. Participants will have an opportunity to share ideas on classroom dynamics and student engagement. \nUTSA’s Chief Legal Officer\, Jason King\, will be available to address questions on issues such as free speech on campus\, compliance with SB 17\, and other issues. \n\nSeating is limited. Please RSVP to reserve your spot. \n\n \nRSVP for this eventView more information

SUMMARY:Celebrate Teaching Week: Keynote Speaker - Bob Duke
DESCRIPTION:February 20-24\, 2023 is UTSA’s inaugural Celebrate Teaching Week! Hosted by the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars\, celebrate the exceptional teachers that make our top tier university a place where students thrive. \n\nJoin us for an inspiring and insightful talk by one of UT System’s most prestigious teaching scholars. Free and open to all. \nFaculty may include this event as professional development in Digital Measures. \nStrategic Confusion and the Joy of Accomplishment\nGreat teachers are skillful experience-creators. Although it’s certainly necessary at times for teachers to explain and demonstrate\, our students learn most when they engage in activities that ask them to interpret\, reason\, write\, and solve problems\, all of which can lead to students uncovering and working through gaps in their understanding. Designing tasks that illuminate these gaps and providing strategic opportunities for productive muddling are what great teaching and effective learning are all about. \nBob Duke is the Marlene and Morton Meyerson Centennial Professor and Head of Music and Human Learning at The University of Texas at Austin\, where he is a University of Texas and University of Texas System Distinguished Teaching Professor\, Elizabeth Shatto Massey Distinguished Fellow in Teacher Education\, and Director of the Center for Music Learning. He is also a clinical professor in the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas and was the founding director of the psychology of learning program at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. Learn more \nEvent co-sponsored by the division of Student Success. \n \nView the Event FlyerView more information
