DESCRIPTION:UTSA faculty members Jianwei Niu\, Ashwin Malshe\, and Rebecca Schroeder as they demonstrate AI lesson plans. As part of a UTSA partnership with Mitre Inc.\, professors Niu\, Malshe and Schroeder have developed AI lessons that span across marketing\, geological sciences\, psychology\, biology\, and computer science as part of UTSA’s Generation AI Nexus program. SUMMARY:Ableism at Work in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an interactive workshop to engage UTSA faculty on ableism in higher education and how design choices can inadvertently perpetuate microaggressions and inequities in the classroom. We will discuss access by looking at accommodations as well as universal design and end with a reflection on changes we have made to our teaching and working in response to the pandemic and how the pandemic has provided us a case study in ableism and universal design. Lunch is provided \n\nBy attending this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\n\nIdentify systemic ableism as it relates to higher education\nIdentify how course design choices can perpetuate microaggressions related to disability in the classroom\nCompare and contrast the use of accommodations verses the implementation of Universal Design for Learning principles.\n\nCreating an effective learning environment for all is important to us. One the largest in the nation\, the Disability Resource Center is an international model of progressive service delivery\, uniquely positioned to approach campus access systemically. Through strategic outreach\, the goal is to design campus environments and experiences to be usable and welcoming for a diverse range of individuals\, thereby reducing the need for individual accommodations or modifications. Dr. Kraus is highly involved in collaborative efforts with University personnel to foster the development of a seamlessly accessible campus environment and infuse disability into the campus community.

DESCRIPTION:The UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers\, in collaboration with UT System Faculty Developers\, invites all UT System instructors and graduate students to join us for a series of presentations and conversations about the relationships between teaching\, learning\, and wellbeing. Experts across our system will offer a unique agenda to reflect on our experiences and innovatively plan for what comes next for our colleagues\, our students\, and our programs. \nBy attending this course\, participants will explore and reflect on the implementation of ideas for teaching as wellness.
