SUMMARY:UT System Webinar on OER in Tenure & Promotion
DESCRIPTION:As part of the UT System’s ongoing work to build momentum on OER\, UT System is hosting a webinar on the topic of OER in Tenure and Promotion\, to be held on Thursday\, February 10\, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CT.  The webinar will feature Amanda Coolidge\, Director of Open Education at BCcampus in British Columbia\, and Andrew McKinney\, OER Coordinator at CUNY\, the City University of New York.  They are the authors of the DOERS3 OER in Tenure and Promotion Contributions Matrix\, an adaptable advisory model to help guide faculty to include their OER work in their tenure and promotion portfolios. \nRecognizing the contributions by instructors who create and improve OER as part of their professional work is a critical part of sustaining OER in higher education\, and Amanda and Andy will walk webinar participants through the matrix with time for questions and discussion. \nThe webinar will be of interest to not only faculty but also P & T committees\, department chairs and others who make promotion decisions\, as well as library directors\, instructional designers\, and others working to advance OER engagement across the UT System. \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nAmanda Coolidge is the Director of Open Education at BCcampus. She leads the BC Open Textbook Project as well as the Open Education initiatives in the province of British Columbia\, Canada. The BCcampus Open Education team produces Open Educational Resources (OER) – textbooks\, toolkits\, and other learning materials – in collaboration with the B.C. post-secondary system. The team also develops and delivers workshops to increase awareness\, adoption\, and adaptation of OER by instructors throughout the province and around the world. Amanda has as a background in Educational Technology and Instructional Design. Prior to working in the British Columbia Post-Secondary Sector\, Amanda was the Senior Educational Technologist on the TESSA (Teacher Education in Sub Saharan Africa) project\, based in Nairobi\, Kenya. TESSA is a bank of open educational resources (OER)\, linked to the school curriculum\, and designed to support teachers and teacher educators in developing active approaches to learning. \nAndrew McKinney is the OER Coordinator for the City University of New York’s Office of Library Services. For OLS\, he administers the CUNY OER Initiative\, a $4 million a year program that aims to increase the use of Open Educational Resources and Open Pedagogical Practices across CUNY’s 24 campuses. In that role\, he leverages his 15 years of working across CUNY as a graduate student\, adjunct faculty member\, educational technologist\, faculty development specialist\, and instructional designer to support CUNY’s librarians\, faculty\, staff\, and students as they adopt\, adapt\, and create OER. \nAbout DOERS3:  DOERS3—Driving OER Sustainability for Student Success—works to realize the promise of high-quality\, accessible\, and sustainable OER implementations to achieve equity and student success at scale.DOERS3 members include 28 participating post-secondary systems and statewide/provincewide initiatives\, serving over 6.6 million students at more than 735 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. UT System OER leaders have been a part of several DOERS3 projects. \nRegister for this event

DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Joy in Teaching: Fostering Resilience through Asset-Based Thinking \nHosted by UT Rio Grande Valley \nPresenters: \n\nAlyssa G. Cavazos\, Director Center for Teaching Excellence\nAlonso Troncoso\, CTE Student Teaching Consultant\, Business Management\, Class of 2024\n\nAccording to the American Psychological Association “Resilience is the process of adapting well in the face of adversity\, trauma\, tragedy\, threats or significant sources of stress\, such as family and relationship problems\, serious health problems or workplace and financial stressors. It means ‘bouncing back’ from difficult experiences. Research has shown that resilience is ordinary\, not extraordinary. People commonly demonstrate resilience.” \nIn this session\, participants will explore how we can foster resilience in our teaching and learning practices through asset-based thinking approaches. Specifically\, we will explore strategies for creating opportunities where we prioritize positive emotions by reflecting alongside our students on character strengths\, gratitude\, hunting the good stuff\, rejuvenation\, and optimism. \nMicrosoft Teams meeting Join on your computer or mobile app Click here to join the meeting \nOr call in (audio only) +1 737-220-2208\,\,721856108#   United States\, Austin \nPhone Conference ID: 721 856 108# \nFind a local number | Reset PIN | Learn More | Meeting options
