SUMMARY:AI Responsible Pedagogy: Setting New Terms for Assessment (Part of the Assessment\, Reimagined: Learning Beyond the AI Answer | UT System Conference series)
DESCRIPTION:About Today’s Session\nTo meet a teaching and learning landscape reshaped by generative AI\, educators need a strong understanding of the outcomes they are trying to assess and why. This opening session introduces UT Austin’s working definition of responsible AI use for education\, one centered on learning outcomes and human development rather than the tools themselves. Julie Schell\, Assistant Vice Provost of Academic Technology and Director\, Office of Academic Technology\, The University of Texas at Austin\, and Kasey Ford\, Lead Learning Designer\, Office of Academic Technology\, The University of Texas at Austin\, will lead participants through an interactive look at where their own practice sits on the AI use spectrum\, why that position matters\, and how to create a learning environment for all students. Participants will leave with a set of approaches to support effective AI pedagogy and working definitions for integrity\, validity\, and responsible use to carry into the following sessions. \n\nAbout the Series\nAs generative AI changes what students can produce and how they engage with learning\, it invites us to reconsider what meaningful assessment looks like. This seven-part webinar series explores how AI is challenging long-standing assessment practices while opening new possibilities for making student thinking visible\, emphasizing process\, cultivating curiosity\, and creating authentic learning experiences. The central question: What evidence of learning matters when AI can help produce the answer? \n\nRemaining Series Schedule\n\nOctober 8\, 2026: Knowing My Values: Reflexive Practice on AI in Teaching and Assessment\nNovember 12\, 2026: Assessment Approaches to Experiential Learning\nDecember 10\, 2026: CWACA: Cognition We Actually Care About\nFebruary 11\, 2027: Human(e) Learning in Digital Spaces\nMarch 11\, 2027: Igniting Curiosity: Assessing Learning for a Lifetime\nApril 8\, 2027: Beyond the AI Answer: Designing Assessment with Students\n\n\nLearn more about the UT System Mini-Conference Series. \nCreating an effective learning environment for all is important to us.
