Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in our first annual UTSA First-Gen Institute.  A free, one-day institute for UTSA faculty and staff focused on our first-gen student population to dialogue and deepen our understanding of both the strengths and challenges that first-gens face. The institute will include Dr. David Laude from UT Austin as our keynote speaker, Dr. La’Tonya Rease Miles from UCLA as our closing speaker and opportunities to hear from UTSA students, learn about UTSA first-gen demographics, and network with fellow attendees. Breakfast and Lunch are provided.  Faculty and Staff are welcome!  Space is limited.

  • 9:30-10:15 | Demographic Portrait of UTSA First Generation Students – Dr. Patricia Sánchez, Professor  of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies & Department Chair, UTSA
  • 10:30-11:45/noon | Keynote Address – Dr. David Laude, Professor of Chemistry & Executive Vice President & Provost, University of Texas at Austin
  • 11:45-1:15 | Lunch & Listen – UTSA First Gen Student Panel
  • 1:30-2:30 | Closing Address – Dr. La’Tonya Rease Miles, Director of First Year Experience and Strategic Initiatives at UCLA.
