This interactive workshop will focus on the additional responsibilities and expectations that come with tenure at a research university and the ways in which you can manage your life. Becoming a full professor involves more than keeping a schedule and setting goals, but also involves a realistic vision to recognize, avoid, and extricate oneself from career commitments that contribute to feeling “stuck” at associate professor. As a former department chair and dean, Dr. Ruiz will also focus on ways in which institutions can facilitate the path toward full professor with grants, mentorship, and other incentives. Professional fulfillment should be a milestone in the path to full professor rather than a casualty of the process.
